After roughly 25 employees at Jacob Myers Deli lost their jobs abruptly Wednesday night after receiving a text from the owner saying the popular restaurant was closing permanently, the community has rallied behind them to make sure they have a good Christmas despite the circumstances.
Former Jacob Myers General Manager, Kevin Whitfield, started the GoFund me fundraiser on Thursday to try and raise money for all the employees that lost their jobs the day prior. As of press time, the fundraiser has raised about $2,000 and is growing currently.
This isn’t the only community action project that’s taking place for these employees. Angie Stumbo, local real estate broker of EXP Realty, has taken up donations for food and money to purchase gift cards to distribute to all of the employees.
“We are a community that takes care of its people,” Angie posts to Facebook in her initial post offering to purchase groceries for the employees out of her own pocket.
