Helping Hands Helping Hearts, a 501c3 non-profit organization created to help the elderly, homeless, disabled, and the veterans, has teamed up with local Real Estate guru Adam Sims to help the local homeless in the Rhea County Community during this winter storm 2024. Adam Sims has a local vacant rental property here in Rhea County and he is providing the home free of charge to the homeless each night and day while the temperatures are so frigid and cold.
“We are taking it day by day and seeing how the temperatures are,” says Helping Hands Helping Hearts Founder and Executive Director Cathy Swafford. “We were originally just letting them stay over night from 6pm-7am, however with as cold as its been during the day, we’ve let them stay day and night. We will have to until it gets warmer,” Cathy continued.
This is something that the pair have been doing since the beginning of the week when the temperatures started dropping. If you are homeless and needing a warm place to stay for the time being to get through this winter storm, you can call Helping Hands Helping Hearts at 423-827-7421 or you can meet the organization in the parking lot at Food City today, January 16, 2024 at 5:30pm to be driven over to the shelter.
“I’ll be picking up people who need the shelter at the Dayton Food City at 5:30 PM today if anyone needs a ride,” says Cathy Swafford. “We have shelter options for men and women,” Cathy continued.
The community has been donating food and other items to the cause as well.
“We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of the community in the donations that we have received,” Cathy said.
If you are in need of shelter or if you would like to help with any donations, please contact Helping Hands Helping Hearts at 423-827-7421. Helping Hands Helping Hearts is located at 385 2nd Avenue. The organization has its 501c3 Tax Exempt Status with the IRS and all donations are tax deductible.
