Jacob Myers, a staple in this community, has officially closed its doors as of Wednesday night at 10pm. After employees closed up for the night, the owner of the establishment, Stacey Sholl, sent out a text to their employees announcing the news to them.
“In the past 12 months we have experienced unprecedented increases in food costs, labor costs, service costs, utility costs, and rent costs.” Stacey stated in the text. “Sales have been at historic lows,” she continued.
This text caught all employees by a surprise and have employees scrambling trying to find jobs without warning. Employees took to Facebook with their pleas trying to find anyone hiring this close to Christmas due to the announcement.
A lot of citizens in Rhea County also jumping to Facebook to state their disappointment in the announcement and the way it was announced.
“The employees deserved better than that,” Anton Brown posted to his Facebook page.
We also want to make known that the landlord only owns the building. They are in no affiliation with the business or have anything to do with it closing.
Jacob Myers operated in Rhea County for the last 25 years and had a 4.5 star rating on Google. Rhea County Observer has reached out to Jacob Myers through their social media pages, phone, and email and haven’t received a response as of press time on Thursday.
