According to court documents obtained by the Rhea County Observer from Rhea County Criminal Court, Lakisha Shannay Jones has been indicted by the grand jury with charges of false reporting and tampering with evidence. According to the indictment itself, Jones made a false report to law enforcement regarding information about the deadly shooting of her 7-year-old son.
She also is being charged with tampering with evidence. Count 2 of the indictment states, “Jones unlawfully, and knowing that an official proceeding or investigation was pending or in progress, concealed firearms with the intent to impair said firearms availability as evidence.”
These indictments come after Chris’tion Jones, Lakisha’s older son, was charged with criminal homicide just days after the shooting occurred. An arrest report obtained shows that Chris’tion confessed to the shooting and told law enforcement that there was a struggle before the gun went off shooting the child. The child was transported by family members over to Rhea Medical and then transferred to Chattanooga, where he later died due to the injuries.
We will continue to gather information about these indictments and this case and will continue to keep you posted.
