Scooter’s Coffee, a drive-thru coffeehouse founded by Don and Linda Eckles, is opening a new location in Dayton on Florida Avenue next to Dayton City School. This new location will add to the franchise’s growing number of over 650 locations across the US and has the potential to bring more than a dozen new jobs to Dayton. The new location will be built at 126 Florida Avenue, right across the street from Century 21 and right next to Dayton City School giving direct access to patrons passing by on Rhea County Highway.
According to the company’s website, Scooter’s was founded by Don and Linda Eckles in 1998. Its first location was in Bellevue, Nebraska, and has grown to over 650 locations all across the United States. They say that their “keys to success” are: “to find a great location and stay committed to high-quality drinks, speed of service, and a BIG smile.” They also advertise on their website that they “…only roast from the top 10% of specialty coffee beans in the world.”
With coffee being the 2nd most-traded commodity in the world, Dayton sure has plenty of coffee shops to go around. Scooter’s Coffee will be the 5th specialty coffeehouse to open in Dayton over the years. Harmony House, Jennings Coffee, Drip Kitchen and Coffee, and Drip Express have all already opened their doors and established a footing here in Dayton. Later in 2024, Scooter’s will join the list and serve the Rhea County community.
Citizens took to Facebook this week about their thoughts about Dayton having another location to buy specialty coffee. A lot of the concerns expressed on the “Rhea County Community Page” Facebook group are traffic concerns when school is in session. With tons of traffic in that area in the mornings and afternoons during school drop off and pick up, citizens are concerned that more traffic in that area will not only cause headaches for most but also cause a huge safety issue. However, there were a few citizens who were excited about the new business coming into town and pledged their support once it opens.
The Rhea County Observer reached out to Scooter’s Coffee on their company Facebook account to check and see about their future location. Scooter’s Coffee representatives responded and stated that they were planning on opening the Dayton location in late Q1 2024.
You can count on the Rhea County Observer to update you once an opening date has been announced.
